Mock Interviews

Notes from the session

-Tue/wed lessons are mock interview practical. 15 min per person, per interview. Questions will be given out for preparation before the interview, and it will be filmed. We will then be given feedback based on our answers and performance.

Own research on how to prepare for an interview:

-Research company

-Prepare for common interview questions

-Prepare some questions to ask the interviewer at the end

-Bring a copy of CV/ availability

-Turn off phone

-STAR Method (situation, task, action, result)

-Treat everyone you meet in the building as your interviewer.

Task: choose a company and research how you may prepare for an interview with them.

Company: BBC

-Achievements that are relevant to the role. e.g. work in college, networking, additional projects outside of college that shows your interest in media.

-Structure answers (STAR) to give a clear response that shows your individual contribution to the project.

-More interested in passions and interests surrounding the role/what you do outside of education rather than academic achievements.

-Show personal development relevant to the role.

-Inform, educate, entertain is their main three purposes.

-Values include being independent, impartial and honest.

-BBC Fours target audience is adults 35 and over.

My comments:

The interview gave me a chance to practise an interview in a more relaxed environment. Especially since I had interviews for my CDF placement and a university interview later that same week, it was very beneficial to give it a run through. Since doing these real life interviews, I have since had some good outcomes (a university offer and being taken on at my placement).

This interview gave me a chance to prepare some potential questions that might be asked of me later in the week. Because we we're given the questions beforehand and I had the chance to research the company and my own answers, I believe I was able to respond to questions with some ease. I think I did the right amount of preparation and felt that the interview went well overall.
