Additional Project: Diamond Dogs

Outside of college, I have been doing several side projects for my dad's band 'The Diamond Dogs' mainly revolving around Photoshop. This has included the creation of a new Facebook Cover Photo and updated gig posters that are now being distributed to their venues with information about upcoming performances.

Cover Photo

For this project, I was asked to create a cover photo using one photo of the band. The band said that they would like it to be similar to an album cover by 'The Ramones'. Upon their request, some wording was also removed from one of the band members' shirts and text with the title of their band was added.

I created multiple products in order to give the band a variety of pictures to choose from.

Some issues did crop up during this project, such as the limited space in Facebooks cover photo and so I couldn't make the product exactly the same as the Ramones album without Facebook either cutting off text or part of their heads. Therefore, as a compromise we decided to put the text in the middle. I also tried to choose text that was as close as to the text font that originally existed on posters as to conform to the same style.

I also made use of the extra space on the left of the photo to insert their iconic pink lightning bolt that is used as a sort of logo for the band- this is used on gig posters, t-shirts and on their profile picture and so I thought it would be best to stick with this theme. It is slightly different to their original one due to it being a solid shape and would look out of place within this picture. As a compromise I made it a neon sign style which better complimented the picture overall and the band were happy with it this way.

Gig Poster

Due to the band members changing, I was also tasked with updating their gig poster. I was given the original poster along with three new photos to upload and fit into the existing template. For this, I used Adobe Photoshop and used both old and new skills to construct the final product. For example, I wasn't too familiar with the elliptical tool but was also able to use this to my advantage to crop the photos to a circle shape.

I have now sent the amended poster back to the band and it is currently being printed in a batch for all upcoming gigs for the foreseeable future. As well as appearing in a physical form in windows of venues, the band also uploads the posters to Facebook with information about upcoming gigs and so will have multiple uses.
