Inspiration, Education, Employment in media

This powerpoint goes through my inspirations and influences in my chosen field in media- production. As well as this, I also explore options that are available to me after college such as apprenticeships and potential university degrees through UCAS. Thinking more into the future, I also found some local job advertisements and what they require and desire from candidates in order to see exactly what would be the best pathway for me personally. This has helped me to think about more options for when I finish college and a range of courses or jobs I may want to look into applying to later on in the year.

Amendments:

I believe both of these courses would make me a good candidate for the jobs I had researched in the previous powerpoint. They give me the necessary skills and knowledge for relevant jobs such as video producer, freelance editor etc. Both of these courses give me a broad range of skills in many elements of practical film making. I believe that if I applied after completion of the university course or apprenticeship, I would have a much better chance of being hired in comparison to me applying after my college course. This is because I would have existing knowledge on how to effectively use industry standard equipment and have a lot more experience on my CV that is media related.

Updates from UCAS

Originally, I applied for 5 courses through UCAS:

-Northern School of Art

-Northumbria University

-Salford University College

-MET Film school

-Newcastle university college

I have since withdrew my places at MET film and Newcastle University College due to a lack of interest in their courses anymore. However, I have had offers for the other three including one unconditional offer.

For the Northern School of Art, I did have to attend an interview and show them my portfolio, this was greatly helped by this unit of work- for example, they were impressed with my show reel and I was grateful for the chance to practise an interview before the real thing. I felt that getting feedback on things such as my logo and show reel have given me a chance to see things from a viewers perspective, both for good points and improvements. Editing and viewing my show reel over and over has obviously made me very familiar with it and so it was nice for a few fresh pair of eyes to see it for the first time and pick up some points that I had perhaps missed. The same went for my logo which I also included in my show reel. I was able to expand on this at my university interview and I believe my portfolio was to a good standard for being looked at by higher education admissions.

I was also able to tour the building and see their facilities as well as speak to one of the lecturers and some students. I also believe my personal statement helped secure my place as it was checked and improved multiple times before being sent to the School. The work for this unit has definitely payed off in a real life setting and bought me the unconditional offer from an Art school. I am now in the process of deciding which university course to go with.
