Networking - Leo Pearlman

 Networking Experience

Subject:

Q&A with Leo Pearlman in ‘The Looking Glass’, Sunderland. 8th October 2021.

Who was it with?

Leo Pearlman, a film producer. He has produced films such as theOne direction movies, Cinderella, Gavin and Stacy etc. He fell into the role more than working up to it, mentioning he actually had a Law degree and hadn’t really been involved in film/media subjects in his education.

He is a founder of the company ‘Fulwell 73’ which has produced big TV shows such as ‘The Late Late show’ and worked with artists like Harry Styles and Bruno Mars. They have found success in both the UK and US. The company has offices in Sunderland, London and Los Angeles. The company was also founded by James Corden, which massively helped on expanding the company to the US.

What did you learn?

I wasn’t aware of the company Fulwell73 before going to this talk but it has inspired me to find out more about the company and what they do. I didn’t think there was a production company set up in Sunderland, never mind one that has worldwide success with such famous TV shows and films. They also mentioned things such as hiring interns soon for the company, so has massively helped me with knowledge on media companies that are local to me. The company as a production company is also very hand in hand with my job aspirations, so has broadened my knowledge of what sort of companies I’d like to work for after college. The company does productions such as documentaries, films, advertisements etc. which is very relevant to my college course and career pathway.

Leo talked about his experiences within the company and its productions such as Netflix's 'Sunderland til I die' and how he was able to secure the production for Sunderland rather than mid-league team Crystal Palace. He has great influence in the company and so was really enriching to watch his Q&A and hear his advice on getting into the industry.
